Flexus 300 - Dirac Calibration
The Klipsch Flexus Core 300 includes a standard Dirac license. This is a very powerful technology which optimizes the Core 300 to your room.
Dirac can be configured two ways, either through the Klipsch Connect Plus app(available on iOS/Android, or the the Dirac Live PC/Mac App.
For most users, we recommend using the Klipsch Connect Plus app. Klipsch engineers have optimized the user experience and made setup very quick and easy. For advanced users, you can download Dirac Live from the Dirac website.
Option 1 – Fast Setup through the Klipsch Connect Plus app
- Download and Install the Klipsch Connect Plus app from the Apple App Store or Google Play store
- Open the app and follow the prompts to setup the Core 300. The Core 300 will be connected to your wifi network in this process, as well as undergo any firmware updates.
- To start the Dirac Calibration, select “Dirac Live” under the Audio Adjustments menu
- Select the “Create New” button.
- Follow the wizard to complete Dirac Setup. The app will walk you through the process. A series of measurements will be taken, and you will be able to save your new Dirac preset.
Option 2 – Advanced Setup using the Dirac Live PC/Mac App
To use the Dirac Live on a PC or MAC there are some guidelines that should be followed to ensure you have a successful room calibration. The Flexus Core sound bar has all the features and more of a typical home theater system.
Unlike a traditional AVR, soundbars process audio much differently and the internal tuning is typically closed to ensure high performance audio. Therefore, Klipsch suggests using the following settings in the Dirac Live PC/Mac App, where Dirac allows you control and make changes to very wide variety of parameters
All curtains for full range channels should be set to:
150Hz(left) – 24kHz(right)
Curtains for Internal subwoofer (Quad 4” bass drivers in the bar):
35Hz(left) – 900Hz(right)
Curtains for any External Subwoofer (wireless or wired):
10Hz(left) – 450Hz(right)
Klipsch has made available for downloading a target curve which you will load into Dirac Live before adjusting the curtains. This eliminates the horizontal bar (dB slope) adjustment found in manual mode. Klipsch has determined this to be an optimal experience for our Flexus sound bar system. You may choose to use your own custom target curve(s), but the curtains are strongly advised to remain the same.
The Dirac curtains do not determine a cutoff, or in any way limit the sound produced by the Flexus sound bar system. The curtains control the area excluded from inside the curtains will not receive any further processing towards the target curve.
1. When first entering Dirac Live you will need to locate the sound bar on your network.
2. Next you will choose your microphone, ether the one included with your Flexus Sound bar, or your own custom setup. 3. In the next step you will make sure your master volume and microphone gain are set to optimize the signal to noise ratio in your environment. The default setting on the master volume should be 25dB, and mic gain set to +20dB. The Mic gain column will show you the ambient noise level in your room. Check a speaker’s output such as the center channel and remember its level. If you have 10dB or more difference between the ambient noise level and speaker output, it should be okay. A larger difference approaching 20dB+ is always better to achieve a greater SNR level.
4. The following step will let you choose the desired imaging result for calibration. This choice determines the optimal number of measurement locations determined by Dirac. Experimentation may be desired to achieve the results you prefer. Please see Dirac’s website for further information.
5. When all measurements are complete you will go to the post processing section of Dirac. This area is where the critical settings are used to optimize your Dirac Calibration. The first step is to load an ALL-GROUPS target curve provided by Klipsch.
After the target curve is loaded you will focus on the right side of the screen using the “speaker groups”.
6. Click on Group 1 and proceed to set the curtains on the left to 150Hz, and on the right to 24kHz as outlined in the guide at the beginning. You will do this for each group of channels that aren’t exclusively used for reproduction of heavy bass.
7. If you do not have any external subwoofers then you will skip to the next step.
You should set all external subwoofer(s) (wireless and/or wired) to the following left curtain of 10Hz and the right curtain to 450Hz.
8. Finally, the dedicated internal bar bass drivers (internal subwoofer) curtains are set to a left value of 35Hz, and the right value of 900Hz.
