IMPORTANT: Use a flash drive that doesn’t store any important information. This process will wipe the contents of the drive.
NOTE: Performing these steps out of order can cause the update process to fail, or cause issues with your system. Please take the time to follow these instructions fully and carefully to ensure the update is successful.
Upgrade Step 1 - DSP
You will first need to update the device’s DSP, which stands for Digital Signal Processor. The steps are below:
NOTE: You can check the various, current firmware version numbers by pressing the small surround pairing button under the right end-cap.
- Delete all existing files from a USB flash drive.
- Make sure drive is 8GB or less and formatted to FAT32
- Preferably, use a USB 2.0 drive.
- Follow this link to download the DSP file.
- Unzip the folder (if needed), and copy the "ISPBOOOT.BIN" file to the flash drive. It should be the only file on the drive.
- If the files were extracted to a folder, copy the entire contents of the folder, not the folder itself.
- NOTE: For Mac or iOS users, you may need to install a secondary program to unzip the folder.
- Eject the flash drive from your machine - Macs require you to drag to the Trash, and in Windows you can right-click and select Eject
- Un-plug and re-plug the soundbar into AC power - wait 60 seconds for the system to fully come online.
- Remove the right-side panel, exposing the USB port.
- Insert the USB flash drive into the port.
- Hold down the power button on the bar until the word UPGRADE appears. This takes about 15 seconds.
- Let go of the power button.
- The words UP DSP should appear.
- Count 5 full minutes on a watch.
- No status updates or counting will be displayed during this update
- There may be a slight hiss or hum coming from the bar during the update process
- After 5 full minutes, press the power button once to turn the unit off.
- Remove the USB flash drive.
- Unplug the device from AC power.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Plug the device back in.
- Wait 60 seconds for the system to fully come online.
- Tap – don’t hold – the PAIR button on the right side three times until you get to DSP. You should see DSP 5.0 displayed.
- NOTE: If you see DSP 0.0, turn off the bar and unplug it from AC power. Wait 10 seconds before plugging the bar back into AC power and checking the version again. If the expected version still does not appear, run through the entire update process again.
- Once the update is confirmed, press the power button on the top.
- Update is now complete, and you can continue with the second update.
NOTE: Do not continue to Step 2 without confirming Step 1 was complete. Doing so can cause issues with the bar.
Upgrade Step 2 - MCU
- Delete all existing files from the properly formatted flash drive
- Make sure drive is 8GB or less and formatted to FAT32
- Preferably, use a USB 2.0 drive.
- Follow this link to download the MCU file.
- Unzip the folder (if needed), and copy the provided file to the flash drive.
- Power on the soundbar. If the bar was not already plugged in, plug the soundbar into AC power and wait 60 seconds for the system to fully come online.
- Remove the right-side panel, exposing the USB port.
- Insert the USB flash drive into the port
- Hold the Power button on the soundbar until the word UPGRADE appears, then release the Power button.
- Wait for the upgrade to complete - the status will be displayed on the soundbar. The device will return to INPUT + VOLUME, such as TV 30, when complete.
- Always wait a minute after this has appeared, just in case a second round of updates happens.
- Remove the flash drive
- Unplug the soundbar, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in
- Power on the soundbar - wait about 60 seconds for the bar to fully power on.
- Tap - don’t hold - the Pair button under the right-hand panel of the device to scroll through the versions of installed software to confirm the update has completed
Upgrade Step 3 - WIFI
- Delete all existing files from a USB flash drive.
- Make sure drive is 8GB or less and formatted to FAT32
- Follow this link to download the SWU file to the flash drive.
- Unzip the folder, (if needed), and copy the downloaded file to the flash drive. It should be the only file on the drive.
- Re-name the SWU file to image.swu
- Eject the flash drive from your machine. Macs require you to drag to the Trash or click the eject icon in Finder. In Windows, you right-click the flash drive and select Eject.
- Power on your soundbar if it's not on already
- Remove the side panel to expose the USB slot on the soundbar
- Plug the flash drive into your soundbar
- Hold the Power button on the soundbar until the word UPGRADE appears, then release the Power button
- The words "UP WIFI" will appear and quickly disappear - THE UPDATE IS NOT COMPLETE
- Wait about 2 minutes for the update to begin - it must copy the very large update file to the bar, and it shows no indicator while this is occurring. DO NOT REMOVE FLASH DRIVE.
- You will see the update count from WIFI 00 to WIFI 100
- Wait for the upgrade to complete - the display should revert back to "TV 30"
- It can be a good idea to wait 10-20 minutes, in case the software is upgrading and not showing status updates, which has been the case in earlier versions of the software. It may also flash SUR RX, SUR TX, MCU, and other items during the update.
- In some cases, the LED display may go blank after the update completes. In those cases, simply press the "LED" button on the included remote to turn the LED's back on.
- Remove the flash drive
- Unplug the soundbar, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in
- Power on the soundbar
- Scroll through the versions of installed software to confirm the update has completed.
Note: You can check the various, current firmware version numbers by pressing the small surround pairing button under the right end-cap.
Keep pressing this button to scroll through all the firmware currently active on your device. It should display as follows:
MCU 119 >
WIFI 1.0.219.0 >
DSP 5.6 >
SUR T 04 >
SUR R 11 >
SUB T 03 >
SUB R 02 >
HDMI 43
NOTE: If you do not have the Surround 3 speakers connected to your Cinema 700, the "SUR" firmware values should read "0".
