70V and 100V Speakers
In it's most simple form, 70V/100V (or "High Impedance") allows the installer to Daisy Chain speakers together on a single amplifier channel. In large installations, this is much easier then running a lead back to the amplifier for each speaker.
- Typical Use: Large residential or commercial distributed audio systems.
There are two types of 70V / 100V speakers: Fixed Tap and Multi-Tap.
- Fixed Tap: The speaker will draw a set power rating when connected to a 70V / 100V amplifier.
- Multi-Tap: This allows the installer to select various tap settings to determine how much power a speaker will draw. The higher the tap setting, the louder the speaker will play and the more power it will draw from the amplifier.
How many speakers you can chain together is dependent on the amplifier's power and the tap settings of the speakers.
